Our Mission

The Sunshine Playschool program is committed to providing a loving, safe, diverse, and developmentally appropriate setting in which a child can explore and grow to their fullest potential.

The preschool years are a time of rapid development physically, emotionally, and cognitively - how children think and learn. These are the years that children establish a foundation of their concept of the world and their place in it. The team at Sunshine Playschool is focused on supporting healthy development and fostering a love of learning in our students.

Our warm and loving teachers guide our students in an emergent, play-based curriculum model which emphasizes social-emotional development and peaceable problem solving. We respect that every child has their own personality and learning style.

We strive to treat each child with understanding and caring around their own levels of ability and maturity. In keeping in mind their similarities and differences, we believe that an environment of respect and an enthusiasm for learning will blossom.

Our Team

Hello! I am Meghan Frisvold and I am so excited to be a part of our amazing teaching team and our Sunshine community. I am passionate about early childhood and love working with young children. I have been in the field of Early Childhood for almost 25 years, as both a teacher and an administrator. I have a B.A. degree in Young Child & Family Studies from San Francisco State University. I love being in the classroom and learning alongside students each day! I believe in meeting children where they are at, developmentally, and providing ways for them to grow, thrive and take risks in a safe & loving environment. I am always ready for some emergent, fun, engaging, explorative play!

I am a Bay Area native and when I’m not at work, I love to travel, take road trips and explore the hidden gems of the bay area with my family, my husband, Steve, our two kids, Felix and Hailey, and our two dogs, Pickles & Lola. I also enjoy reading, cooking & baking, meditation, game nights with friends, and a good cup of coffee.

Hi! I’m Kaitlin.  I am the proud mama of two fierce daughters, Charlie and Quinn.  I love teaching about bugs and plants -- natural history, ecology, and human biology are my favorite topics!  I started working with preschoolers while I was in high school as a Montessori teachers aide and I continued to work in the onsite childcare program at UC Santa Cruz while I studied for my BA in Anthropology.  I worked in business management for a decade and then over the past several years, I experienced the joy of co-op preschool and realized my passion for community centered programs. I am excited to bring together my passion for community building, knowledge of the early child, and business experience to support our precious early learners and their families to create a family at Sunshine Playschool where everyone has a place.
